Why use machined parts for plastics components?
Machining is often the most cost effective method of producing plastics components in small to medium batch quantities. A wide choice of materials is available and machining offers great flexibility in design, without the heavy tooling costs associated with moulding.
Component dimensions and design can often be easily altered without incurring excessive expense. Resin bonded composites with high quality fibre reinforcements are not suitable for moulding of sophisticated shapes so machining is often the only practical method of producing complex components in these materials.
Experience in machining laminated plastics and resin bonded materials
Our technical capability combines high performance up-to-date CNC equipment with an unmatched depth of experience in machining laminated plastics and resin bonded materials and other engineering plastics.
Today, Tufnol components are used in a huge range of applications, from oil platforms to super cars, large electrical machines to medical instruments, and for critical parts in many of the world's best-known aircraft.
With a wide choice of equipment, including both CNC and conventional machines, Tufnol can produce high or low volume batches, made to order using the most cost effective techniques.
Tufnol holds BSI Quality Registration to ISO 9001:2008 and Aerospace Standard AS 9100 Revision C.
