TUFNOL etch baskets are giving four times the life of their metal predecessors at the Derby works of Rolls-Royce Ltd. The baskets, which are constructed of Whale brand fabric base TUFNOL sections, are used to hold components while they are immersed in a solutions of hydrofluoric-ferric sulphate. This process reduces the size of the metal components by chemical action. TUFNOL’s resistance to chemical corrosion, it’s light weight, and the ease with which it can be machined, make it ideally suitable for duty under such onerous conditions. An excellent example of how TUFNOL can replace more traditional materials to advantage.
